tMy favorite things continued....
Ok should get easier and shorter from here....now, I realize I already listed God and family as 1 & 2 but being that they are way higher than anything else on this list, I am going to start again at 1. This list is a subset of the last page. :o) It's also not in any real order but it's pretty thorough.
1. Movies: I love movies both new and old. Anything with Mel Gibson ::sigh:: Braveheart is my favorite with Patriot probably 2nd. I love the Lethal Weapon movies too. Think I need to list actors & actresses, then movies.
Actors: Mel Gibson, Matt
Damon, Ben Affleck, Liam Neeson, Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis, Ian Someholder,
Joshua Jackson, Ryan Phillipe
Seth Green, David
Boreanez, Brendan Fraser, Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Cary Grant, Gene Kelly, Bob
Hope, Frank Sinatra, Spencer Tracy, Jimmy Stewart, Kenneth Branaugh, Heath Ledger
(that's the short list)
Actresses: Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Meg Ryan, Catherine Zeta Jones, Jennifer Love Hewitt (reminds me of my friend Lisa), Alicia Silverstone (reminds me of my friend Amy), Katherine Moenning, Katie Holmes, Reese Witherspoon and that guy that was in Pleasantville with her., Emma Thompson, Julia Stiles (again, the short list)
Movies: Braveheart, Patriot, Lethal Weapon (all 4), Princess Bride, Can't Hardly Wait, 10 Things I Hate About You, Romeo and Juliet (the 1968 version), Hamlet (the one with Mel of course), Much Ado About Nothing and Henry V (esp. the first and last 15 minutes), Emma, Good Will Hunting, Aliens, Scream (not into horror but thought this was both funny and scary), Chill Factor (watched this two nights ago and it was too funny...either a great movie or just because it was 4am), Jerry Maguire, Father of the Bride (orig), Father of the Bride II with Steve Martin, Story of Us, Stir of Echos, Never been Kissed, Ever After, The Whole Nine Yards, Die Hard (all 3 but the 2nd was a bit disappointing, tho i still laugh at the line, "Just the fax ma'am"), Brining up Baby, High Society, The Trouble with Harry, Psycho, Dial M for Murder, Rear Window, Rob Roy, Ladyhawke, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club , Sixteen Candles, Home Kind of Wonderful, Home Alone, Sleepless in Seattle, White Christmas, Wonder Man, Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Boys' Town, Harvey, Bells of St. Mary's, Going My Way, ALL the Road movies....ok this could go forever. Let me just say this is a partial list of the movies I enjoy. :o)
Movies I did not enjoy (or the parts I managed to sit thru): Dogma, only saw parts of it but was disapppointed in both Matt and Ben, I expected better. End of Days: Arnold, what were you thinking?, The Exorcist and Storm of the Century for the same reason, theologically inaccurate to the point that I couldn't overlook it. Oh oh oh...almost forgot, that one with Ewan MacGregor, Eye of the Beholder. It stunk. I'm sorry. I like Ewan and Ashley but I hated the movie. Forrest Gump....now before you start throwing chocolates at me, hear me out. The moral of the story seemed to be "be nice to everyone, love and respect everyone, and everyone you love or care about will die". The movie depressed me thoroughly and I gave it away. Now, my opinion was not helped by the fact that, at the time, I was a manager at Blockbuster and heard several times daily, everyone in town's impression of Forrest Gump. I have yet to buy a box of chocolates since.
2.Quotes: OK....most of the quotes are from my brother Micah...but they really are my favorite quotes :o) I've listed my favorite 2. To see the rest....go to the quotes page. If you can't wait -> QUOTES
"Never meddle in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup" Unknown
"If asked which is better: the sun or moon, I should say the moon. I have never lain down on a nice fuzzy hill-top on a warm summer's day, looked up at the sun, and said 'My, isn't that pretty.'" - Micah Hale
"Don't do drugs to get happy. Get a turtle. Those are nice." - Micah Hale
3. Thunderstorms. I absolutely love thunderstorms. It is what I miss most about living in the Midwest. I like lightning and lots of thunder. I do not like power outages tho. I kid that I want to be a storm chaser like Helen Hunt in Twister....I had a friend say "You won't get on a plane yet you want to chase tornados for a living?" All I could say was "Yep," :o) My son Joshua was born during a thunderstorm which was one of those cool little personal miracles God grants. I asked for a storm to calm me when I went into labor and I got a very nice one. :o)
4. Flowers. My dad has always planted flowers whereever we live. My favorites are violets tho I like irises, tulips and sweetheart roses as well. I prefer interesting colored roses to red tho and I like wildflower bouquets more than any other kind I think.
5. The moon. Not much to say. I like the moon. I think it's peaceful and pretty. I also get a kick out of hearing Josh, my 3 year old, yell "Look mommy, it's a crescent!" Go Veggie Tales! (he learned his shapes from a Veggicational book)
6. Reading. I have always loved to read. I like history. I like romance I LOVE historical romance and my favorite authors (outside of the bible) are Andrew Greeley and William Shakespeare. In the bible? I'd have to say Paul. :)
7. Puzzle books. I'm an addict. What can I say? Crosswords, cryptograms, fill-ins, my absolute favorites are called "Places Please" and logic problems. I leave the ones with numbers for Dave.
8. The colors green, blue and some shades of purple. Not much to explain here. I'm a "cool" colors person. :)
9. Anything citrus, except grapefruit, and even then with enough sugar grapefruit is pretty good. Perfume, air freshener, candles...all citrus. :O)
10. Scents: pine, lemon,
vanilla, orange, gardenia, freesia and strawberry and did I mention citrus?
:)
11. Dessert....ooh. Now
this gets complicated because desserts are very important. You can never have
too much cool whip on strawberry shortcake, pumpkin pie or ice cream. NOTHING
beats a good cheesecake. Nestles Treasures are addictive and I've suddenly become
infatuated with Starbursts. Josh will only eat the yellow ones. No clue why.
12. Food: other than cheesecake? :) Potatoes are my favorite. Especially mashed with butter, cream cheese, salt, pepper and either a good gravy or sour cream. I also enjoy pepperoni pizza with banana peppers, mexican food as a rule (homemade tacos & spanish rice), nachos, and Chinese food. Oh and a little Italian. Won't eat veal but I do like the peppery chicken alfredo and breadsticks at Fazoli's. Cheese ravioli is also nice. With the potatoes, fried chicken is the best. :o)
13. Art: I like to draw, people mostly. I liked the art gallery back home (Nelso Art Gallery). You could wander around and it was so peaceful and quiet. Favorite rooms were one designed to look and feel like a courtyard in a monastery and the haunted chapel. Now, the closest thing I've seen to art around here is the monastary in Conyers, GA. It's very nice. You could leave me in there for a week and I'd be happy.
14. SOME animals. I say
some because I don't have any pets currently and don't intend to. When I do
get a pet, I would like (if we have a big
enough yard) an Irish Wolfhound. Or, without a big yard, and with my sons older,
a sugar glider. I also love lions.
15. The sounds leaves make in the Fall when you step on them and the smell of fires coming from fireplaces.
16. The plaza lights. If you ever go to KC, you have to go during Christmas and walk around the plaza. Some of the stores have animated scenes and those fascinated me as a child. I would not recommend going to the lighting ceremony if you are claustrophobic. BIG crowd.
17. Holidays, I love holidays because they mean my husband is home and I am with family.
a. Easter: absolute favorite service is the Easter Vigil in a Catholic church. I think Easter is my favorite because it is the reason we have a chance for eternal life. God's greatest sacrifice is our only redemption. Pretty powerful. I also enjoy chocolate bunnies (milk please), deviled eggs, reeses eggs and jelly beans, the fancy kind, not the cheap kind and NO black jelly beans.
b.Christmas: 1st it celebrates the greatest gift of all, Jesus. I also love the smells, lights, hot cocoa and warm home cooked meals. Decorating the tree and watching my kids open their presents. I like getting them too but not nearly as much as I like buying toys for the kids. Let's see, did I leave anything out? I like the songs, the movies, the decorations, the weather, pretty much everything. Oh and midnight mass is nice when I am awake enough to go. It's been a few years tho.
c. Thanksgiving: I like it because it means time with family and good food! Also a great time to thank God for all He has given me.
d. 4th of July: I like fireworks, to an extent, to be honest, it wasn't until this year that I really enjoyed the 4th enough to list it as a favorite holiday. I spent last 4th wandering around Yorktown (Cornwallis, turning point of the Amer. Rev.) and ended the evening watching fireworks in the square in Williamsburg, listened to speeches in the House of Burgesses and marched behind a fife and drum corp with a huge crowd. For a history nerd, a perfect 4th. :)
18. History: Um....started to answer that one already. Other than Amer. Rev. I like Civil War stuff and the MIddle Ages, particularly the Renaissance and most of my interest lies in England and the countries that stole...um, colonized. Scotland, Ireland, Freedom! :o) I keep wanting to put a 26+6=1 bumper sticker on my car but my hubby doesn't want to insult anyone. Silly boy. We're in Atlanta not Belfast. Anyway, I want to teach Irish History some day and am currently (slowly) learning Irish Gaelic. Ta me gahrid. (sorry about spelling and lack of punctuation. frankly, the grammar could be wrong too. I think it means. I am short.) :)
19. Music: Irish music esp. Chieftains, Enya, Michael Crawford, the Cranberries, Matchbox 20, They might be Giants, Michaell W. Smith, No Doubt, Jars of Clay, Sixpence None the Richer, Carmen, Phil Keaggy, Keith Green, Rebecca St. James, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Belinda Carlisle, The Bangles, did I mention Matchbox 20? :o) Oh and Barenaked Ladies. The song "One Week" is about me and Dave, I'm convinced.
20: Games: computer, N64, and board. On the computer, I'm currently addicted to the Sims, N64's latest games are Banjo-Tooie and The World is Not Enough and board game favorite right this moment is Yahtzee, tho my brother in law has a bible game that I would be interested in playing with my whole family. Humbled me in my believed knowledge of the Bible.
21. Waking up with a kiss on my nose from Joshua. :o)
22. Suburbia: I like the peace, the quiet, the lack of crime, the space, the nice lawns and the fact that I can actually trust and talk to my neighbors.
23. Bookstores: well, i like to read and bookstores have a kinda library quality to them. It's quieter and there's so much information around you.
24. Jewelry (did it really get this far down on the list??) I love jewelry. I like rings especially. Stones: emeralds, rubies, sapphires, opals, citrine, tanzanite, amethyst, garnet, did I leave anything out? Oh and I have a new appreciation for and a bit of longing for a pretty white diamond. with a couple of sapphires if possible. I also love religious jewelry, in particular the celtic cross and I am trying to find what I refer to as a fishy ring. It has to have open fish all the way around the band.
25. Debate, politics, religion, you name it, i will be there. :o) Party: Republican, Religion: Christian of the Jesus Freak variety
26. TV shows: current favorites are Law & Order (both of them), 7th Heaven, Roswell, Popular, Buffy, an occasional Angel tho it's losing my interest, Millionaire some nights, Survivor was awesome, and YOUNG AMERICANS!!!! I heard a rumor that the WB isn't bringing it back and I am crushed. It was a summer premiere and the best show I've seen on TV in a long long time. Yep, even better than 7th Heaven and I like that show!
27. Candy: i put this separate from desserts? Weird. Ok. Milk chocolate, fudge, starbursts, treasures, reeses, m&ms, dove milk chocolate, certs, gummi bears, jelly bellys and twizzlers.
28. Blue's Clues, It makes
Josh happy and Steve reminds me of a cross between David and Sean.
29. Sesame Street. Loved it growing up. Love it now. Love the 15 minutes of peace that Elmo's World provides.
30. Veggie Tales. Ok, if you have not seen them what are you waiting for???? I admit, I thought they sounded stupid. Vegetables that can talk? Come on....then I watch Very Silly Songs and have been hooked ever since. They are incredibly funny, base some of their stuff on Monty Python skits and there's NOTHING objectionable....except maybe Alfred sounding a bit tipsy on the Christmas album, but I thought it was funny. :)
31. Pikachu, sorry, I
have to admit that he is cute.
32. Down comforters, quilts, feather pillows, scented candles (see above for scents), bubble baths (add peach to list of approved scents)
33. My mom's kuchen! My dad's dinner rolls! and My mom in laws chicken and dumplings. Now I'm hungry....
34. Mice. Had a pet once that lived under my dresser. He stayed because I fed him cheese crackers and would lay and watch him. MY poor dad. He set out traps. We (the children) protested. Too violent. He switched to poison and while he was at work one day, we found one of the mice, obviously sick and we begged our mom to save him. He got a little box and some lettuce and boy was my dad thrilled to see that we had nursed him back to health. :o) I believe he asked was "Is that a mouse in that shoebox?" He's a cool guy :)
35. "Those wacky mormons"....now before anyone gets offended, I am referring to a very specific group of mormons (mostly women) who have chatted with me online and crack me up on a regular basis. Sam, Angel, and a whole list of others that have patiently answered questions or simply joked around with me. To those that assured me that I am not an "anti", I thank you. And thanks for sticking up for me Sam :)
36. The internet. I suppose that's kinda a "duh". I enjoy chatting online with family or in abortion debate and mormon QnA on AOL. I have discovered that you really can make friends online and it's also a great way to find out what's on tv tonight. :o)
37, Bath & Body Works: If you've been there, you know what I mean, if you haven't and you are female you must go. Soaps in all sorts of scents with matching candles and picture frames and other girly stuff. It's an OCD-riddled Tiffy heaven. The candy corn candle smells awesome! The fruit in a jar candles are good too and the freesia line is quite nice.
38. Victoria's Secret: same story as above. and they have cute cute clothes that actually fit! plus tons of pretty stuff that being a married woman and all I can walk in and look at without being embarrassed. :o)
39. Precious Moments: created by Sam Butcher and I think the pictures are darling and the messages beautiful. I highly recommend 3 board books: A Child is..., Happiness is... and Love is.
40. The guys at Sig Nu (a few in particular). They are really sweet and fun to be around EVEN if they don't call or write ::HINT HINT:: Not pointing fingers at anyone (Jon) but it seems a certain person (Jon) is supposed to visit us here and I haven't received any email from this certain someone (Jon). I did however receive a nice happy thanksgiving note from Elliot. Thanks! :o)
Stopping at the number 40 because it's biblical and all and seems like a good place to stop babbling. :)
